  • Collaborating Efforts — To keep you informed of our latest school development
    • November 1, 2012: Mission statements of the International School of Winterthur (ISW) and Zurich International School (ZIS) emphasize the importance of providing a high quality international education. In past years, both schools have successfully collaborated in ways that benefit students and faculty. As such, Trustees have agreed to formalize this collaboration by signing a memorandum of understanding. The purpose of the memorandum is to ensure future collaborative efforts in order to provide a sustainable high quality international education experience for constituents in the ISW and ZIS communities in an increasingly challenging educational environment.

    • ISW & Red CrossFor our local project, we collaborated with the Red Cross Zürich and held the first ever Red Run. This event raised funds and awareness for the 'mitten unter uns' program through the Red Cross. This integration program connects foreign speaking children with German speaking host families or individuals. For the Red Run, ISW students set a goal for the number of laps they could complete in one hour. As a school, we ran 1856 laps and raised 7, 966 CHF! It was important and impressive to see ISW join efforts across all grade levels, PYP, MYP, and DP. Students were able to see the implications of their actions and understand how even a 7-year old can contribute in meaningful, powerful ways.

  • Global Project: Lakshmi Narayana School in India and Living Education in Pakistan
    • ISW in PakistanThe MYP was involved in a global project, were students partnered with two schools, Lakshmi Narayana School in India and Living Education in Pakistan. Students learned about the schools and wrote letters of introduction. We received letters back in May 2012. Our goal for this partnership is to understand cultural differences and similarities and develop a relationship with other schools. It is our intent to maintain this relationship with both schools and potentially students will have the opportunity to travel to the schools as a service project. Serving others without doubt always entails learning more about oneself.

  • ISW goes to Poland / Respite Center
    • ISW in PolandIn June 2012 students in the DP embarked on a CAS trip to Poland. Here, they spent three days volunteering at a Respite Center where they worked with students with disabilities. They had to learn to adapt and modify activities for individuals and to communicate in ways they never tried before. As a result, they gained the capacity to understand our similarities and found that a "hello" is more powerful than pity. Everybody trekked the Tatra Mountains for 4 days. The sweat brought triumph. Students challenged themselves, encouraged each other, and displayed resilience, tolerance, and ultimately commitment to achieving as a group. Lastly, all toured Auschwitz. Understanding the realm of human destruction brought many to recognize the civil responsibility we hold. This year’s CAS trip was well earned through fundraising and planning and in the end, pushed students to see the “we” in the tempting and limiting “I” culture that exists.
